The Future is AR

Apple launched AR Kit, it’s suite of AR developer tools at its annual WWDC developer conference in June 2017. AR Kit allows developers to build applications that use the iPhone or iPad’s cameras to superimpose virtual objects onto the real world like never before.

Apple’s Tim Cook is a big fan of Augmented Reality, in fact he sees huge potential for it, describing it to the The Independent as;

“A big idea like the smartphone. The smartphone is for everyone, we don’t have to think the iPhone is about a certain demographic, or country or vertical market: it’s for everyone. I think AR is that big, it’s huge. I get excited because of the things that could be done that could improve a lot of lives.”

AR Kit gives us the first real glimpse of what will be possible with marker-less AR, surface mapping and improved tracking.

Checkout the video below of an F1 Car Augmented Reality Animation developed by the Catalyst Team running on the iPhone X.  Although a very early prototype, for those in creative fields like marketing and events this AR Kit demo no doubt gets the mind racing about the opportunities ahead!
